Three glass jars with the same design on a clear, a white and a holographic label sticker

Most people choose a sticker by colour and shape. The film underneath is what shapes how the finished product looks on a shelf, whether that shelf is in Singapore or Malaysia. A clear label sticker, a white one and a holographic one can carry exactly the same artwork and give three completely different impressions.

This guide covers what each film does best and how to pick the right sticker label for the container or packaging you already have.

White: the dependable default

White stock is what most labels are printed on, for good reason. Colours print true on a neutral background, small text stays sharp and readable, and a white label sticker is forgiving to apply by hand.

White comes in more than one surface. Matte white holds fine detail and photographs cleanly, with no glare. For products that are chilled, washed or handled wet, choose white PVC vinyl or polypropylene: both are waterproof and splash-resistant.

Choose white when the label needs to carry information: ingredients, instructions, barcodes, or anything a customer should read at a glance.

Clear: the no-label look

Clear vinyl and clear polypropylene let the container show through wherever the artwork leaves a gap. On a glass bottle, an amber jar or a clear tub, that reads as a premium package, as if the design were printed straight onto the glass.

Two things make a clear label sticker look its best:

Clear film looks most invisible on smooth glass or plastic. On a frosted or textured container, the surface itself gives the label a soft outline, which many brands like as part of the look.

Clear film is also the practical choice for window and glass-door stickers, and on packaging it lets the product or a printed tissue show through a seal.

Holographic: built to be noticed

Holographic film shifts through magenta, cyan, gold and violet as the light moves. Where a clear label is meant to disappear, a holographic sticker label is made to stand out. It works hard on youth and consumer brands, sticker packs and limited-edition packaging.

There are two ways to use it. Print your artwork onto the holographic film so the rainbow sits behind the design, or knock your logo out of a printed layer so the film shows through only in the shape of the mark. The two effects look very different, so tell us which one you want when you ask for a quote.

Holographic film is also much harder to photocopy than a normal print, which makes it a useful visible authenticity cue on genuine product.

Water, splashes and solvents

The clear and holographic films we print are water-resistant: they handle splashes, rain and a wipe-down, which suits the humid climate of Singapore and Malaysia. If your label will regularly meet alcohol, cleaning solvents or oils, we specify polyester (PET) or polymeric stock, which is solvent-resistant.

A quick way to decide

Your situationFilm to start with
Lots of text, barcodes or instructionsWhite (matte, or white vinyl if it gets wet)
Glass bottle or jar, premium “printed-on” lookClear, with a white underlay
Dark container, colourful artworkClear with a full white underlay, or white
Sticker packs, merch, eye-catching packagingHolographic
Visible authenticity cue on a productHolographic
Regular contact with solvents or oilsPolyester (PET) or polymeric

Still deciding? Hold the container in the light where it will be sold or used, and ask whether the label should blend in, inform, or stand out. That answer usually picks the film for you.
