Waterproof product label sticker on a cookie jar and a kraft bakery box

Home baking businesses in Singapore and Malaysia tend to reach the same milestone. Friends start paying, then a customer asks to gift your cookies to a client, and suddenly the jar needs a proper printed label. That is usually when people call a printer, often a few days before a market or a festive rush.

This guide covers the three decisions that make a home baker’s label look professional: size, material and content.

Start with the container, not the design

Measure the flat area of the actual jar, tub or box you are using. Three tips for a label that sits perfectly:

Sizes that suit most home bakers: 40 to 50 mm round for jar lids and cupcake boxes, 50 x 30 mm oval for bottles and small tubs, 70 to 90 mm round or square for a box top, and 25 mm round for seals on tissue and bags.

Match the material to your product

Cookies and dry bakes in a sealed box are a dry-goods job, so paper or kraft label stickers are a great fit and look excellent. Once moisture is part of the picture, which is often in a tropical kitchen, choose a waterproof stock:

PVC vinyl and polypropylene label stickers are waterproof and splash-resistant, which covers condensation, spills and a wipe with a damp cloth. That is everything a home bake needs.

What goes on the label

Beyond your brand name, these are the fields home bakers most often need:

  1. Product name, clear at arm’s length on a market table.
  2. Ingredients, in descending order by weight. Customers with allergies read this first.
  3. Allergen call-out (nuts, dairy, egg, gluten, soy), visually distinct so it is easy to spot.
  4. Net weight.
  5. Date marking: baked on, best before or use by, used consistently.
  6. Storage instruction: keep chilled, keep frozen, or consume within a set number of days of opening.
  7. Contact: at minimum a name and a way to reach you.

Two practical tips. Print the date field as a blank box you fill with a stamp or a fine pen, so one artwork covers every batch. And place the allergen line where it stays visible when the jar is picked up.

This is a printer’s practical list, not regulatory advice. Food labelling requirements vary by product type and are updated from time to time, so confirm your own obligations with the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) in Singapore, or the Ministry of Health’s Food Safety and Quality Division in Malaysia.

Artwork that prints sharp

Vector files (AI, EPS, or PDF with the text outlined) print sharpest and cut cleanest. A high-resolution image works well for most jobs if it was made at the finished size or larger. If you only have a phone screenshot, send the original design file instead for the crispest result.

Leave 3 mm of bleed, keep text 3 mm inside the cut, and keep outlines at 0.25 pt or thicker.

Start small and repeat

The best pattern for a home business is a small run, reordered as you grow. It keeps your labels fresh as recipes, flavours and packaging evolve. Tell us the quantity you actually need.
