You have almost certainly touched one today. The badge on a washing machine, the plate on a lift control panel, the emblem on a power tool: that raised, glassy, slightly magnified mark is an epoxy dome sticker label. Many people assume it is moulded plastic. It is actually a printed label sticker with a clear resin poured over the face, and it is a popular finish for brands and equipment makers across Singapore and Malaysia.
How one is made
- Print. The artwork is printed onto a face stock: PVC vinyl for most badges, polyester (PET) where the badge will meet solvents, or a metallic silver polyester for a brushed-metal look under the dome.
- Cut. The label is die cut to its final shape, or kiss cut on a sheet for small badges.
- Dome. A measured amount of clear polyurethane resin is dispensed onto each label. Surface tension carries it to the cut edge, forming a smooth convex dome with a clean rim.
- Cure. The sheet rests level while the resin hardens into a tough, glossy dome.
“Epoxy dome” is the everyday name, and the resin used for durable badging is usually polyurethane, chosen for its excellent clarity in sunlight.
Dome versus lamination
Lamination is a thin film pressed onto the face. It protects the print, adds a matte or gloss finish, and is the right choice for most labels. A dome takes protection and presentation a step further:
| Laminated label | Epoxy dome sticker label | |
|---|---|---|
| Layer over the print | Thin film | Thick, raised resin dome |
| Edge sealing | Covers the face | Resin flows right to the cut edge |
| Scratch resistance | Good | Excellent |
| Feel | Flat and smooth | Raised, tactile, magnified |
| Best for | Everyday product and packaging labels | Badges, nameplates and premium branding |
The dome also acts as a lens. Fine detail and colour under a dome look deeper and richer than the same artwork printed flat, which is a big part of why premium badging uses it.
Where a dome is worth it
- Equipment nameplates and machine badges
- Control-panel and instrument plates that are touched and wiped every day
- Serial and asset badges for maintenance records
- Brand emblems on tools, appliances, helmets and instrument housings
- Premium product badging on gift sets, drinkware and packaging
A dome is rigid and sits proud of the surface, so it looks its best on a flat or gently curved panel. For tightly curved surfaces or a fully flush finish, a laminated vinyl label is the better match.
Built for daily handling
The dome is water-resistant and shields the print from sunlight, scuffs and abrasion, which suits outdoor use and routine washdown in the Singapore and Malaysia climate. For chemical exposure, the base stock is what matters: a PVC vinyl base is splash-resistant and handles water-based cleaners, while a polyester (PET) or polymeric base is solvent-resistant. Tell us what the surface is cleaned with and we will specify the right base at the quote stage.
Preparing artwork
- Send vector artwork (AI, EPS, or PDF with text outlined), because the cut line is generated from the outline.
- Keep key detail at least 2 mm inside the cut. The resin forms a gentle curve at the rim, so this margin keeps everything crisp.
- Simple, bold shapes dome beautifully, and the magnification rewards clean, high-quality artwork.
- Tell us the surface it will be applied to. Powder coating, brushed aluminium and textured plastic each suit a different adhesive.
